The Laney College Eagles football team’s record in Bay 6 Valley Conference games is now 1–1 after they beat City College of San Francisco 42–21 in San Francisco on Oct. 13 before losing 27–18 on Oct. 19 at home against College of San Mateo.
Laney is currently the 8th-ranked team in the 2018 JC Athletic Bureau Poll.
The next game vs. Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs (ranked 13th) is at Santa Rosa High School at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The week after, on Friday Nov. 7, the Eagles travel to Pleasant Hill to take on Diablo Valley College.
Laney’s final game of the regular season is back at home for Sophomore Night against 12th-ranked Chabot College on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
The win against CCSF was the fourth consecutive win for Laney’s head coach John Beam, whose offense put up good numbers.
The Rams scored on their first play from scrimmage, but missed their PAT attempt and Nahshon Wright ran it back 98 yards for a two-point conversion. Later in the first quarter, Cameron Nathan intercepted a pass and ran 77 yards for another touchdown. Laney next scored when Troy McConico blocked a punt and Trevor King recovered the ball and ran the four yards to the endzone.
Laney’s defense held the Rams to a total of one yard net rushing and had four interceptions and one recovered fumble.
In the second half, the Rams tied it up 21–21 but then it was all Laney, or rather, it was all running back Joe McDonald, who rushed for 135 yards on 13 carries in the second half.
In the game against CSM, the Eagles lost their foothold early. Laney allowed the Bulldogs 27 points before they managed to put up some points of their own late in the third quarter.
Laney gave up three interceptions in the game. Laney’s one interception packed a fiercer punch, however, when Nahshon Wright returned his for 55 yards for the Eagles second touchdown.
