    Laney baseball drops BVC opener

The Laney College baseball team started its 2015 Bay Valley Conference schedule with a thud as the Eagles dropped a 3–2 decision to Mendocino College at home on Feb. 24.
The home Eagles spotted the visiting Eagles a 3–0 lead going into the bottom of the ninth before their quiet bats erupted to make the game close.
Laney catcher Ryan Silva throws before the start of an inning during a 10-3 loss to American River College on Feb. 21.Brennan Mauchline and Kaleo Johnson opened the inning with singles and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Mendocino pitcher Zach Visinoni retired the next two Laney batters before walking Trevor Greenley to load the bases.
Marciano Reichel grounded a two-run single to left, scoring Mauchline and Johnson as Greenley went to second.
Ryan Silva grounded a soft single to short left field and Greenley tried to score, but was thrown out at the plate for the final out.
Laney starting pitcher Matt Pomykala pitched well enough, going seven innings and giving up two runs on six hits. The runs scored in the top of the first when Mendocino’s Nate Gadsby hit a two-run home run that barely cleared the left field fence.
