The Laney College bathrooms leave much to be desired. Trash cans that overflow with paper, clogged toilets, and missing locks on the doors are the “norm” on campus.
In some cases, the campus facilities are pushing students away rather than creating a space where they feel comfortable.
“With the current state of the bathrooms I would rather wait ’til I get home than go on campus,” said student Suna Tamang.
However, there is a solution at hand that not all Laney students may be familiar with. Signs in the Laney College restrooms urge students to reach out when a restroom needs attention by texting (510)-599–9411.
According to Amy Marshall, director of facilities and college operations at Laney, after messages are received a Laney custodian is dispatched to tend to the task. The custodians are on site and typically are able to respond in fairly short order, she said.
