Did you miss the Oct. 21 voter registration deadline but still want to make your voice count this Tuesday? It’s not too late to register and cast your vote up until Election Day through Conditional Voter Registration.
This process, also known as Same Day Voter Registration, serves as a safety net for citizens who did not register before the deadline, but still want to participate in this year’s election.
Hopeful voters can show up at their county election office, polling place, or vote center. Locations and hours can be found through the California Secretary of State’s website.
This election season, three Peralta Community College District Trustee terms are up for renewal, with only one of the seats being contested. The incumbents for these seats are:
- Area 2, currently held by appointed Trustee Paulina Gonzalez-Brito
- Area 4 represented by Trustee Nicky González Yuen
- Area 6 represented by Trustee Dyana Delfín Polk
Trustees are elected to four-year terms. Since Yuen and Polk are running uncontested, they will not appear on ballots.
Area 2 voters will decide between Gonzalez-Brito and challenger Sinead Geneva Anderson. Gonzalez-Brito was appointed in March 2023, after Oakland City Councilmember Kevin Jenkins vacated the Area 2 seat.
The Citizen endorsed Gonzalez-Brito after holding public forums for both candidates. We also interviewed Yuen and Polk for a Q&A published in Berkeleyside.
