    Foul leads to forfeit

Coach Williams ejected in first quarter

Eyes wide, jaw dropped, Laney Women’s Basketball Coach Ron Williams stood in disbelief.

In a 12–24 forfeited loss to Siskiyous on Sunday, Nov. 12, Laney struggled to create chances. Where Laney lacked creativity in movement off the ball and execution from the line, Siskiyous thrived.

Williams’ tactics of quick breaks and counters only managed to scrape together 12 points, half of what their opponent put up, before they had to forfeit.

With one minute left in the first quarter, Coach Williams received two technical fouls, from two different referees, and was ejected from the game.

“What is most frustrating is that the girls were not able to play.”

There was no option but to forfeit because there was no assistant coach to takes Williams’ place in the game.

“The ref decided to make it personal,” said Williams, who felt that the game was not called fairly.

After Laney was called for a foul, Williams acted out, calling out the referee. The referee, in turn, gave him a technical.

Williams continued to protest and received another technical from a second referee.

After coming off a 76–37 loss to Feather River the day before, WIlliams hoped to improve on some weaknesses in the game against Siskiyous. “What is most frustrating is that the girls were not able to play,” he said.
