KGPC goes on the air, replacing 9th Floor Radio like a pheonix from the ashes

Making your way to KGPC 96.9FM, the Peralta Colleges community radio station isn’t as much of a trek as you might think. 
The satellite links located in the back of the station located on East 8th St., make it an easy landmark. KGPC evolved from the 9th Floor Radio of the Laney Administration Building, which was started by Melissa Neil. Even though KGPC is located across from the Laney football field, it serves to all the Peralta Colleges.

KGPC made a transformation from being a video/podcast to now broadcasting live. Considering KGPC is low-powered radio, it reaches from a 5–10 mile radius starting at Laney. 
Aaron Harbour and Katherine Rae Mondo currently work for the station, along with other DJs who put on their own shows. From jazz/blues to electronic and experimental music, KGPC has a lock down on assortment.
Not only does KGPC provide its listeners music, but also talks about projects in the community and local entertainment. One of the comedy shows is called “Comedian Rhapsody,” featuring local artists who talk about music with no boundaries. Also, with a community news tab on your website, you won’t miss a thing.
“KGPC hopes to provide a voice for some of the varied voices of the Peralta community,” Harbour said. “As we slowly grow and produce more and more content, we strive to reflect our community, to form an audio portrait of who we are. 
“Like any portrait, it is incomplete; one can never capture every aspect of the subject and much remains hidden. But in attempting to draw, something of the essential character of the subject comes into view.”
What makes the station different from other college radio stations is that it presents a wide range of music, news, tips, and community/school events. Being able to connect with the community, while still providing a college touch keeps the listeners interested.
