During the entire week of Aug. 19, Laney College’s Welcome Week raised awareness of clubs, programs and services on campus of popular groups such as EOPS, TRIO and the Asian Student alliance.
Student Body President Carl Oliver, along with other members of the ASLC, organized the Welcome Week.
One highlight of the event was the presentation and assembly from Laney College president, Elñora Webb. Webb spoke about the quality of ensuring equity on campus and her commitment to the success of the student body.
Everyone in attendance appeared to be charged by her vision for Laney. Similarly, Student Body President Carl Oliver is working with a team to initiate a new tutoring program in the student center.
The program will be partly funded by the ASLC student center fund, which reportedly has $230,000 to allocate for developments in the student center. Test-prep for science classes will also be offered in conjunction with tutoring services. The student government and faculty have asked students what types of support they would like to see this year. The overwhelming answer has been issues around access to quality food, and learning materials like textbooks, backpacks and writing supplies.
Positions are open in student government for students who are interested. ASLC offices are on the second floor of the student center.
