ASLC discusses plans for budget disclosure, Halloween celebration

Budgets and Halloween baskets were the order of the day when the ASLC met for its regular meeting Oct. 17.

The ASLC announced that its budget, which runs into thousands of dollars, would be revised and printed out every two weeks to reflect the changing nature and obligations of student government. No further details were given.

The ASLC announced it would hold a Halloween Party from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Student Center. A budget of $500 ($175 for candy) is allotted for the event, and the ASLC hopes to coordinate with the Laney Culinary Club to cater food and drink.

A photo booth is also planned. Volunteers are needed to decorate the Student Center on Wednesday, Oct. 30; those interested should contact the ASLC office on the fourth floor of the Student Center.

    In other ASLC news…

    • Tommy Lei was appointed treasurer, a position that has been vacant since the beginning of the semester.
    • Kashetu Momodu was appointed club affairs officer.
    • Tegha Ugbayan was appointed as an alternate senator.
    • The condition of the Laney Eagle mascot uniform was discussed, and it was decided to look into having the current one cleaned, but it was also considered that the suit may ultimately need to be replaced.
    • Mercy Redd presented her idea for a bible studies club, which received a charter in a unanimous vote.
    • There are plans to purchase two new microwave ovens for the Student Center.
    • The Ninja Tennis Club invited those interested to join them on the tennis courts Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They plan to hold two tournaments this semester, and hope to add an evening meeting to their schedule.
    • The Oct. 24 ASLC meeting will not be held in its usual location on the fourth floor of the Student Center because of re-carpeting. The alternate location has not been decided but will be posted in the window of the ASLC office.
