    Laney plays Modesto JC at home to open Contra Costa Tournament

    The Laney College women’s basketball team, fresh off of playing two tournaments in Southern California, will play its first home game of the season when the Eagles play host to Modesto Junior College on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m.
    The game is part of the 16-team Comet Classic, which is usually held at Contra Costa College. This year, the first two rounds will be held at Contra Costa, Laney and Merritt colleges.
    Two first-round games will be played at Laney. Napa Valley College will play Butte College at 6 p.m., followed by Laney-Modesto. 
    Second-round games in the Laney bracket will be at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5.
    The first-round games at Merritt, also on Dec. 4, will feature Cosumnes River College against Los Medanos College at 6 p.m., followed by Merritt and American River College at 8.
    Merritt will also play host to second-round games on Friday.
    The last two rounds on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6–7, will be played at Contra Costa.
