When it comes health, students are covered

The Laney College Wellness Center distributes condoms, provides information and consultation for depression and anxiety, as well as conducts therapeutic massage free for students in the Student Center.
The services of the Wellness Center are included in the $18 health fee portion of tuition. In addition to the services already provided, the center assists students navigating through medical insurance and Cal Fresh benefits. The Wellness Center has two locations: Center I is located in the Tower building, room 250.
Here you will be greeted by clerical assistant Veronica Crawford, a Laney alumnus in the social sciences. She understands the frustration of students not having enough information regarding health issues. Crawford works for the Peralta District and regularly conducts classroom presentations on all four campuses.
Wellness Center I is where students receive first aid supplies, such as feminine products and aspirin; general health education; and referrals for dentists, optometrists, acupuncture, and massage.
Center II is located in the Student Center, room 410. This center location is in partnership with Community Health Services.
This is where students will be introduced to the “patient navigators,” an Alameda County on-site nurse practitioner and a medical assistant to evaluate and administrate HIV screening and TB shoots. Female students can receive pap smears.
Students are asked to be mindful of making appointments and not showing. When three appointments are missed without cancellation, the student can lose services for the entire semester.

    About the Contributor
In the fall of 2019, The Laney Tower rebranded as The Citizen and launched a new website. These stories were ported over from the old Laney Tower website, but byline metadata was lost in the port. However, many of these stories credit the authors in the text of the story. Some articles may also suffer from formatting issues. Future archival efforts may fix these issues.
