    Eagles start basketball season

Jamika Wilson sored 23 points to lead the Laney College women’s basketball team to a 69–65 overtime victory over Chabot College in the quarterfinals of the Contra Costa Classic on Dec. 4.
In the first round on Dec. 3, Maddie Mills scored 18 points as the Eagles (3–4) defeated Cosumnes River College 51–44. Laney hosted these two games.
The two victories meant that the Eagles would play Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 in the final two games of the tournament at Contra Costa College and those didn’t turn out so well.
The Eagles lost to Diablo Valley College 77–42 on Dec. 5 in the semifinals and then lost to Mission College 80–57 on Dec. 6 in the fifth-place game. Mills led Laney with 16 points against Mission.
The Eagles’ next game is against Fresno City College in the first round of the San Jose City College Tournament on Sunday, Dec. 27. Their next home game is on Saturday, Jan. 2, against Monterey Peninsula College at 3 p.m.
