Word on the Quad — What are the political issues today that concern you the most?

    by Toni Cervantes

    Joseph Heuken — Machine Technology

Better job training is very important to me. I’d like to see more apprenticeship programs that are more hands-on. You learn stuff at school at the same time getting on the job training.

    Madina Yedilova — Political Science

Medical health is a concern of mine. Today our society is too much in debt with medical bills. People are filing for bankruptcy and becoming homeless because of their debt. I support medicare for all.

    Sabrina Igot — Political Science

Housing and homelessness in the bay area concerns me. The area is so rich and I don’t understand why there is so much poverty. Rent is increasing and wages are staying low My mom is single parent. She works minimum wage and her rent keeps going up.

    Ricardo Rivera — Graphic Design

It’s hard to trust our political leaders. They aren’t doing what’s best for the people. They are more concerned about what’s best for the party or for themselves. If politicians don’t get money in their pocket from the corporations, they don’t care.

    Letonya Brown — Retail Management

Donald Trump keeps me up at night! The government shutdown hurt people who have to feed their families. He doesn’t care because he’s a billionaire. I work with homeless people and he should be more considerate for them.

    About the Contributor
In the fall of 2019, The Laney Tower rebranded as The Citizen and launched a new website. These stories were ported over from the old Laney Tower website, but byline metadata was lost in the port. However, many of these stories credit the authors in the text of the story. Some articles may also suffer from formatting issues. Future archival efforts may fix these issues.
