Tower Watch — Inconvenience and inaccessibility plague Laney campus elevator systems

    by Jordan Hankston/Tower Staff Writer

An effort to repair Laney’s dysfunctional system of elevators is underway. Of the campus’s 10 elevators, six are fully operational at this time. However, by March 28 this number will likely rise thanks to the work of Kone, which have been contracted to maintain the elevators according to the director of facilities and college operations, Amy Marshall.

“One tower building elevator was out,” Marshall said. “Kone had to order a part to complete the repair. We expect them back out to restore the elevator to service.”.The Laney Forum elevator requires that the call button on the lower level be replaced, and Marshall said that it should become fully operational by March 28 as well.

Repairs on the remaining two inoperative elevators are in various stages of completion or planning. The Library elevator, which has been out of service since last spring, is expected to be up and running by the end of spring break. A quote is also being readied by Kone for the repair of the Laney Theatre elevator, but no date for this repair has been established thus far.
