Laney defeats Solano in overtime
The Laney College women’s basketball team remained tied for the top spot in the Bay Valley Conference with a 69–43 victory over visiting Yuba College on Jan. 28.The Eagles are 8–2 in the BVC and 14–8 overall after defeating the 49ers.
At press time, they are tied with Solano and Merritt College for first place in conference play.
Robnesha Brigham led the way against the 49ers with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Luisa Delos Reyes added 15 points.
Laney defeated Mendocino College 53–33 on Jan. 24 in Ukiah, holding the hometown Eagles to nine points in the first half. Courtney Brown scored 12 points and Delos Reyes had 10.
Against Solano in a 77–68 win on Jan. 20, Delos Reyes led the Eagles with 22 points, Rose Marcelino added 16 and Brigham had 14 — all in this second half.
Laney didn’t have it easy against a depleted Solano team that was missing five expelled players.
The Eagles blew a 17-point lead in the second half in a span of five minutes before coming back to forge a 63–63 tie at the end of 40 minutes.
Delos Reyes, Brigham, and Marcelino combined for all 14 points that Laney scored in OT and held the Falcons to just five in an important home victory.
