‘Trial of the 20th Century’ up for vote

O.J. Simpson's case is a "Trial of the 20th Century" candidate.

Which trial would you vote for as the Trial of the 20th Century?

The Peralta Community College District is holding a fundraiser and debate discussing seven of the decade’s most iconic trials, including the trials of O.J. Simpson, Huey P. Newton, and Angela Davis.

The event’s panelists are all renowned attorneys with first-hand knowledge of the trials for which they’ll be debating.

Howard Moore Jr., councilmember of the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee during the Civil Rights movement, will be among them.

Attendees will vote for their trial of choice with donations, which will benefit Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY), a nonprofit providing education and training programs to youth, schools and community centers.

Proceeds will also benefit “The Real Trial of the 20th Century,” a documentary film project based in Oakland.

Noted attorney James Brosnahan will moderate the event.

The debate begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 9, at the Odell Johnson Performing Arts Center (900 Fallon St.).

The winner will be announced at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door for $35 and online at Brown Paper Tickets (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/451175).
