Sawadogo encourages students to take advantage of health services

    Lisa Sawadogo

Laney College is offering free mental health services for all students. Located on the fourth floor of the Student Center is the office of Lisa Sawadogo, a licensed professional clinical counselor.
Her office is a calm, peaceful environment, and Sawadogo is offering her services to all who are willing to accept her help.
When interviewed, she advised all who feel stressed, more emotionally burdened than usual, or who just need support to take advantage of the free counseling services.
Although there is a stigma about mental health, Sawadogo encourages those that need help to push past reluctance and that they take advantage of this opportunity. “Some of the biggest issues for college students are stress connected to family issues, financial problems, and past abuses and traumas.”
Benefits of counseling during times of trouble include decreasing the stress, finding new coping mechanisms, learning new ways to move past traumas, depression, and periods of anxiety.
Sawadogo’s hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Her office number is 410A and her phone number is 464–3535. Her summer hours are 8 a.m.-4p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. — 1 p.m. Wednesday.
