Student election season is in full swing. At a time when Peralta students are navigating schoolwork, personal lives, and administration shifts, these student-led officials represent the most direct link between the student body and the Chancellor’s office.
According to Peralta’s Administrative Procedure 5410, candidates for local campus seats must gather a minimum of 50 signatures from their peers to qualify for the ballot. However, those vying for the districtwide Student Trustee positions face a steeper climb: candidates need 200 signatures in total to qualify for the ballot, which includes 100 from their home campus and 100 from the other three campuses.
The Associated Students of Berkeley City College (ASBCC) hosted a meet and greet for its candidates today between 12:20-1:20 p.m. in the Atrium. They will also host a forum on March 23 between 12:20-1:20 p.m. for ASBCC’s executive board candidates, and another forum on March 25 at the same time for senators and student trustees.
As of publication, Peralta’s other student governments have not set meetings or forums with their candidates.
Elections will take place on April 7 and 8, the Tuesday and Wednesday immediately after Spring Break. Students will be able to vote on their home campus’ student government page, either by navigating to the webpages linked below, or by scanning QR codes that will be made available on flyers on campus.
