Every year on October 1, the district is required to publish the previous three years worth of data on crime at the district, per the Jeanne Clery Act, in an Annual Security Report. The Citizen analyzed data from Annual Security Reports between 2011 and 2024.

The counselor distributed a flyer to students which advertises an off-campus training through a company that solicits a $50 fee and social security numbers from attendees.

The original “free class” to obtain a “security guard card” was promoted through a Sept. 22 CoA student services newsletter. An attached flyer for the event claimed attendees would receive a “certificate to become a security guard” after a one-hour training. The event was arranged by CoA counselor and Project Hope coordinator Robin “Bernard” Ward.

Faculty at the Peralta Community College District wanted to see the $11.2 million state Cost of Living Adjustment funds used towards employee cost-of-living raises, but district officials determined that granting cost-of-living raises of any amount would still require substantial cuts elsewhere in the budget.

Over the past three years, the four colleges of the Peralta Community College District have invited a number of outside speakers to conduct workshops for students, faculty, and staff without formal district-wide policies set in place to determine how much they should be paid. Records obtained by The Citizen show that fees paid to these speakers range widely, from as little as $150 to as much as $60,000.
